Hero Arts: One Layer Holiday Card

Earlier this month I saw a challenge on A Blog Named Hero, the Hero Arts blog, about creating a one layer card. Immediately I knew I wanted to do one but I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. Admittedly I tend to make panels first and then attach them to a card base in case of ink or marker bleeding. But I wanted to challenge myself and wanted to take part in this challenge. I flipped through my Hero Arts stash, which sadly is lacking, and finally came across two sets that I thought I could work with.

I had been fighting the start of Holiday card season, but knew it was time when I saw the sets I used and had just recently purchased.

Both of these sets had to be used and I had to figure out a way to use them together on a one layer card.

My first attempt was a failure as I tired to heat emboss and didn't mask a space for the sentiment. But when I looked at the failure I knew what I needed to do to get my card right.

I first stamped the sentiment from Off-Beat Holiday Messages. When that was placed I then cut a rectangle on masking paper and covered the message on the card front. I think inked up the Christmas Lights Bold Print back ground stamp. I placed the card front on to the stamp and rubbed the back to get the ink to transfer. Since I didn't want any bleeding to occur I grabbed my Prisma colored pencils and done, a one layer holiday card.

Here are some closer looks:

I stayed away from traditional colors and went with rainbow.

The masking was key to making the design work.

When I colored in the lights I followed the strand they were on to keep it consistent.

What do you think of my colorful card for the one layer card challenge of A Blog Named Hero?
